First the formalities, then the magic. At the great estates — such as those managed by the Bavarian Palace Administration — professional photo shoots follow their own rules: some interiors are off-limits, and some park areas require coordination or a permit. The good news: that is my job, not yours. Before your day I clarify what is allowed where and plan the images accordingly — so nothing gets in the way on your wedding day.
The trick against tourists is the time of day. During the day the famous estates belong to the visitors — early in the morning or in the early evening they are almost yours alone. And the sprawling palace parks hold quiet side paths, waterways and avenues hardly anyone knows. I take you where it is calm — and where the light suits the architecture: a west-facing façade glows in the golden hour, an avenue draws long, soft shadows in the morning.
In historic halls I work as I would in a church. Silent shutter, no flash, a respectful distance — your ceremony belongs to you and your guests, not to the camera. Modern low-light cameras make it possible to photograph naturally even in candlelit rooms, without disturbing the moment.
My timing tip for castle weddings: don’t schedule your couple portraits right after the ceremony, when the grounds are at their busiest — take a short time-out in the early evening instead.
